Habakkuk 2:20 – “But wait! GOD is in God’s Holy Temple! Quiet everyone—let a holy silence cover all of God’s creation! Listen!”

Silence is a rarity in our world. Our plethora of electronic devices buzz, vibrate, ring, and play music. They alarm for us, remind us, and let us know each and every moment of the day and night that we have received a text, a message, an email, or a posting on our social media pages. Yet, one of the things that God asks of us is silence. God asks for our silence as an offering. In the same way we give of our time, our talent and our treasure; God would like our undivided attention. God wants to spend time with us. God desires our attention so that God can speak to our hearts, our minds and our souls. Without our offering of silence, we are too easily distracted and we miss the voice of God. God does not want to shout over the distractions of our lives. God does not want the conversation God is having with our soul to be put on hold while we respond to a text message. In Scripture silence before God is a sign of holy awe, reverence and respect. Try to offer to God a time of silence this week – a holy silence – and listen patiently for the still, small voice of God to speak to your soul. Amen
