Malachi 3:16All those who had awe-filled reverence for the Lord spoke to one another; and the Lord took notice and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before Lord on behalf of those who revere, respect and who esteem God’s holy name.

The people of Malachi’s time had become complacent in obeying the word of God. It had become a time of go-along-to-get-along.  Very few people wanted to stand up for what was right. Even the priests in the Temple had become complacent and were not doing their jobs by pointing out the wrongness of people’s behaviors.  Yet, not everyone had become complacent. Malachi points out that there was a remnant of people who were still filled with awe and reverence for the Lord. It is easy for us to turn a blind eye to problems because we want to go-along-to-get-along. Speaking up for what is right is difficult and usually unpopular. If you are a person who is filled with reverence for the Lord there are times when your voice needs to be heard and when you do, as in the time of Malachi, God will take notice and hear you! Jesus calls on all of those who revere the Lord to stand up and be counted through the example of our lives and by sharing the message of the Good News with everyone. Go-along-to-get-along is not the way of God’s people! If you are filled with reverence and awe for the Lord “speak to one another.” Amen
